Empowering Parents

Parenting Network’s  Bridging the Gap program is designed to serve families of children 3-5 years old with special needs who are in jeopardy of falling through the gaps of services needed to enter kindergarten successfully.

Through in-depth case management this school readiness program will ensure that these families will receive needed support and services necessary to navigate the systems required to address the needs of the child as well as the entire family.

The families will exit the program with the skills required to advocate and partner with the agencies they will depend upon for support services for their child, thus “Bridging the Gap”.
Providing families with the knowledge and ability to promote their child’s development. A school readiness program serving families of children 3-5 years old with special needs.

Families of young children with special needs such as Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may be overwhelmed and find it hard to access or follow through with services needed to ensure school readiness for their child.

These children may fall through gaps in educational services or be overlooked by agencies/programs . For some families, one incorrect or misunderstood piece of information may be enough to derail them from following through with telephone calls, scheduled meetings, or paperwork needed to secure services for their child and family.

Bridging the Gap offers assistance to these families through intensive, short-term case management. Information about possible accommodations, the special education system, and other available services is provided. Hands-on assistance with setting up, attending, and participation in meetings is provided. Families also learn about other services  available to assist the entire family.

The goal of the Bridging the Gap program is for young children who have special needs to enter kindergarten smoothly and successfully with all partners and the family supplied with the knowledge and support services needed to ensure school success.
